Showcasing opportunities for tech exports into Türkiye

The Challenge

The Department for International Trade (DIT) Türkiye is on a mission to increase technology exports into the country and the broader EECAN region. With big plans and a busy team, DIT Türkiye needed our help to gain clarity around the UK's market potential, identify and qualify high potential scale-ups for its future trade mission and showcase what the UK has to offer key Turkish buyers.

The Approach

We worked as an extension of DIT Türkiye's team to deliver a three-phased project. Helping the Department to create a powerful trade mission, understand the UK tech market, engage with UK tech companies and showcase market opportunities.

Straight away, we tapped into our extensive network and expertise to create two resources for DIT Türkiye:

a brochure on UK Opportunities for the Turkish Marketplace focussing on Green Technology, IoT & Cybersecurity and Data Analytics
an internal UK Tech Scale-up Directory - which identified 50 scale-ups that could be interested in expanding into Türkiye

Keeping up the momentum, we coordinated a series of customer insight interviews where we engaged with the 50 scale-ups named in the directory.

After initial discussions, we identified and interviewed 10 businesses that would help DIT Türkiye learn more about perceptions towards Türkiye, expansion plans, barriers to expanding into Türkiye and ultimately qualify companies with genuine interest.

Lastly, we presented our findings at an in-person UK tech roundtable organised by DIT in Istanbul. The roundtable was attended by leading Turkish tech integrators, and former UK government Minister for Exports and Equalities, Mike Freer.

We’ve wanted to showcase the UK’s tech market to Turkish players and identify, then qualify the right companies for some time, but having the resources to do so has been a challenge. Thanks to Newfound, we’ve been able to accelerate our plans and ignite a long-term dialogue between the UK and Türkiye. Now we can expect to support a UK tech delegation to Türkiye early next year...

The Results

Our research, insights and resources empowered DIT Türkiye to go ahead with the planning of its trade mission and generate interest and ongoing relationships between UK scale-ups and the EECAN region.

The roundtable event also emphasised active efforts from key Turkish tech integrators to provide the infrastructure needed to make it easier for UK tech scale-ups to do business in Türkiye.
